Midway business owner earns CASA Volunteer of the Month recognition
CASA Volunteer of the Month Michelle Rudzik
A Midway business owner has been named a CASA Volunteer of the Month for excellent work advocating for abused and neglected children.
Michelle Rudzik, who operates Fleur De Bleu on Midway’s Main Street, has also been a CASA volunteer for four years. Back in 2022, she had no plans to be a CASA volunteer, but she attended a CASA fundraiser and another CASA volunteer thought she would be great in the role.
Rudzik went through CASA volunteer training and has since advocated for the best interests of four children who suffered abuse or neglect.
“Michelle has faithfully served on all her cases, providing children with a consistent voice and a compassionate advocate during some of the most challenging times in their lives,” said Jackie Johnson, CASA Director of Volunteer Management. “Her dedication, empathy and commitment exemplify the impact one caring adult can make. We are grateful for the difference she continues to make for the children and families we serve.”
Rudzik said she now encourages people to become CASA volunteers like her new CASA friend encouraged her to do four years ago.
“Children are often open to a kind and warm adult,” she said. “You get to decide if a case is a good fit for you. And the Volunteer Managers are always so generous and supportive. They have always been there to help in any capacity, which removes uncertainty for me.”
It takes about 5 to 10 hours a month to serve as a CASA volunteer – time Rudzik gives while also running her business because she sees the importance of helping children in need.
“My heart goes out to children who need support during a challenging and painful situation,” she said. “That alone is worth the time.”
