Your Guide to Completing and Logging Your 2025 Continuing Education Hours
Every CASA volunteer is required by national standards to complete continuing education hours every year. This ongoing training helps you be a strong advocate. It also helps CASA of Lexington meet the requirements to operate as a CASA program and continue supporting you!
Many volunteers have completed activities during 2025 that would qualify for continuing education credit, but they haven’t logged the hours in Optima. Others may need easy ways to reach their required hours for the year. See below for help with both of these situations!
How Many Hours Do I need?
CASA volunteers must complete 12 hours of CEU credit each year. If you were newly sworn in this year, your hours are prorated based on the month you were sworn in. For example, if you were sworn in in June, you would need to complete 6 hours because there are 6 months in the year after June.
Logging CEU Hours: What Counts?
If you have done any of the following in 2025, you can log the hours you spent as CEU hours in Optima:
Reading a book or news articles relevant to your CASA advocacy (maximum 4 hours)
Listened to educational audiobooks or podcasts relevant to your CASA advocacy
Took any training relevant to your CASA advocacy (trainings can be online, in-person, on-demand, and/or live!)
Took a college class about a topic relevant to your CASA advocacy (all hours you spent on the class count, not just the number of credit hours you received)
Observed family court (you are allowed to observe on the same day your case is in court, but you cannot count the time when your case is actually called)
If you have completed any of these activities but have not yet logged them in Optima, please log them by the end of December to help us stay in compliance! If you have completed any other activities you think might count but weren’t specifically listed above, you can email jbahr@casaoflexington.org to ask if it can count.
What if I still need CEU hours?
If you still need CEU hours, there are lots of options for on-demand, online trainings and materials that can help you wrap things up fast! You can see a lot of options on our website here.
