CASA of Lexington’s Continuing Education Incentives Program

As CASA volunteers, you are focused on helping kids. Getting your required 12 hours of continuing education per year is hardly your top priority — nor should it be!

That’s why we work every year to make completing your CEU credits as simple and easy as possible, while also ensuring you get value from the trainings you complete. Below, we’ve compiled some of the ways we’re doing this in 2023.

Social CEUs

One thing many volunteers said on our annual survey was they would like more opportunities to connect with fellow volunteers and build the CASA community. We are scheduling a variety of social events to make that happen this year, and working to make each of the events also count toward your CEU requirements. Below are the planned dates for each of these events. Please make note in your calendar of any you would like to attend; we will be contacting all CASA volunteers to confirm who is attending in advance of each one. If you would like to RSVP, ask a question or find out more information, you can also email info@casaoflexington.org.

  • Nov. 9, Evening: Painting party at the CASA office (at own cost; time will be set closer to the date; RSVP to info@casaoflexington.org)

Quarterly Prize Drawings

Beginning with April-June of 2023, CASA of Lexington volunteers will earn one entry in a quarterly drawing for each hour of Continuing Education credit they have logged. Prizes will be four $25 gift cards at the end of the April-June and July-September quarters, and four $100 gift cards at the end of the year.

Every hour you earn counts as an entry for every drawing! This means if you earn 2 CEU hours by the end of June, those hours will get you two entries in all three drawings, for a total of six entries. If you earn 4 more CEU hours during July-September, you’ll have four more entries in both of the remaining drawings.

All volunteers who complete their CEU requirements for the year will have their entries in each subsequent drawing doubled! This means if you complete 12 hours of CEU credits by the end of June, you’ll have 24 entries in all three drawings. All you have to do is log your CEU hours in Optima to be entered. You can access Optima from the Volunteer Dashboard using the button below.

Court Observation Hours

CASA of Lexington volunteers can now count time spent observing court for CEU hours. All current volunteers can schedule with their Volunteer Manager a court date to observe and/or plan to observe during the date of a hearing in your case!

Time spent traveling to court and attending the hearing in your own case count as normal volunteer hours. But time spent in family court observing other cases can be logged in Optima as contact log hours and training log hours.

If you have any questions about this, please ask your Volunteer Manager or email training@casaoflexington.org.

Attend CEUs with your Volunteer Manager

Volunteer Managers will be contacting their corps of volunteers when they are attending one of our regular continuing education opportunities. Now, you’ll know every time you can knock out some CEU credits with friends — and catch up with your VM at the same time.

Volunteer Managers will also be available to debrief with their volunteers after these CEUs, allowing you to log additional CEU time for the event!

Attend pre-service trainings for new volunteers

Current CASA volunteers are welcome to attend and observe any of our training sessions for new volunteers. This can be a great way for volunteers who have served for several years to refresh their original training, and it counts toward your CEUs for the year! You can see upcoming training sessions on our Training page. Just let us know you plan to attend a session in advance by emailing training@casaoflexington.org. Once you’ve attended a class, log your hours in Optima.
